Hi All.

TexCyn has requested an update, so here it is.

We are doing OK.  The roof should be finished by the end of the week.  Rain and the Thanksgiving holiday have delayed progress.

It makes me deeply unhappy that the dream of jumping in my RV and taking off for the desert southwest for a few months was, in fact, just a dream.  This experience has taught me much about the importance of living one's life rather than planning it.   Although the dream did get me through some stressful times in the last year of my doctoral program.

But the house and the cancelled travel plans are the least of our concerns now.

My wonderful father-in-law has been in ICU since last week after having bowel surgery.  The pain of the damaged house is nothing compared to seeing him struggle.

Thanks to you all for your very supportive comments.  I knew you would understand - we have a lot in common.

  1. Oh no, very sorry to hear of your father in law! I hope he'll be ok & have a full recovery.
Yes, the house isn't nearly as important in this picture & the travels can wait. Once it does happen, then it will be all the sweeter! {{hugs}} check in when you can & keep us updated please.

  2. I am so sorry to hear the news concerning your father-in-law. We will be keeping him in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated on his condition.

I understand all to well the disappointment of postponing a dream. Mike and I had to do the same thing with our full-time lifestyle when we came off the road after almost 2 years. The way I see it...all those amazing places will still be there and we will still get to explore and experience them just on a different timetable. You will also get to travel and will happen. Hang in there and do what you need to do at this time.

    Sending hugs!

  3. Oh, Kim.

I'm heartsick for you now, and thinking good thoughts for your father-in-law.

  4. Your right, the health of a loved one trumps travel.

Even if you don't get to buy an RV and take some time off as planned soon, you will be able to do it. Don't loose the dream. When the time is right it will work out for you.

Maybe your husband will become more interested in some travel? Who knows. Look what has happened in my life this year.

  5. One Day At A Time my Friend.

  6. It is always darkest just before the dawn. Things will get better. The house will get repaired, and hopefully your father in law will have a full recovery. Keep the Faith. The travel will be even more fulfilling when things settle down. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers......jc

  7. Hang in there, Kim. I'm sorry you are going through a valley right now. You'll look back on this time from a mountaintop. God bless you and your family.

  8. Kim,
All good things come a little at a time. When I bought my first rig my Dad needed me and I moved into his house to be there. And my dream was put away for almost a year do to other things that came along with it.
Yes your house is in shambles right now but it is being fixed and your Father in law is in need too. But it will not last forever. Keep your faith it will work out.
You are in my deepest thoughts and prayers

  9. It's especially hard when more than one tragedy hits at a time. My prayers go out to you, and especially to your father-in-law, I hope he will come through this, and have a speedy recovery.

On a positive note, thank goodness you are finished with your studies, so you don't have that to worry about. And Doris was not hurt in the storm. And you cancelled the Casita, so you don't have to worry about picking it up, paying for it, and having it just sit.

Your RV travel dreams will still happen, just a little later than planned. Everything will come together for you again, it always does. You can always rent an RV for a few days or a week, just to get away. Take good care of yourself.

  10. Hi Kim! I keep thinking of you!

Somehow, I missed the post about your father in law and hope he is gaining strength and feeling better.

I hope your home is recovering, too. I absolutely HATE renovations and this has to be even worse.

Take good care and keep your eye on the prize! After your pursuit for the PhD this is definitely do-able!

  11. Kimbopolo ... I've been seeing your name on all the blogs (I read) over the past year plus and have a confession. I just got that it's a take on Marco Polo. Holy cow I can be thick sometimes

  12. Hey girl, it's been awhile since we've all heard from you! Hope all is ok.

Let's chat !
