Quartzsite, AZ

2300 miles.  15 days.

And now I'm here.  Arrived at the Rubber Tramp Rendevous about 2:30 this afternoon.

I'm  looking forward to hanging out with some cool folks.  And setting out my chair and mat for a change.  And seeing the Milky Way.

It's cold here - mid 40s with a slight breeze - but it doesn't hurt like it does back home.  Lows expected in the high 20s tonight but I've come to realize how well-insulated the GDB is.  And the furnace does a great job.

People are preparing for soup night.  All the donated cans get thrown in the pot (the contents, I mean).

Stopped in Buckhead, AZ to gas up and had my very first "senior meal".   The Denny's geezer cut-off is 55 so I won't officially qualify until next month.  But I acted like a senior and got the discount.

Gonna go make a Manhattan, hang out, and watch the sunset.

  1. Insanely envious. But I am going to northern Michigan in February and should be able to see the Milky Way there...if the sky is clear. Have fun fun fun! This has been a wonderful trip. I feel like I've gone along with you. THanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks Lynne. Hard to believe it's not even 1/2 way over. I plan to take my time getting home and do a lot more exploring.

  4. Dang that's a lot of miles!! I had to laugh at your senior discount experience. I got used to it after I hit 55 and now I get miffed when a place has a cut off at 60 cause I'm not there yet! :-)

  6. Glad you made it. We're still kicking the can about leaving for Quartzite around the first of Feb. Your posts from there may be the tipping point:-)

  7. I'm glad you made it, too. This cold weather is bad, though. I'm thinking maybe it's actually colder feeling here in San Diego at low temps than it is in Arizona. Somehow it seems so much colder here. Maybe because AZ is dry? I'm heading, I think, for Hot Springs Monday am. It should start warming up on Wednesday, according to the forecasts.

    Have fun! :)

    1. Having Fun. Wish You Were Here.

I met Jeanne - you are right, what a nice lady! We both said how much we wished you and Katie were here. I'm looking forward to visiting with her more over the next few days.

Yes - Wednesday is looking much better. Have a good drive!

    1. Thanks TC. It's supposed to warm back up around Tues/Wed. It cold but at least it's sunny and the wind's not blowing.

    1. Yay! A couple of people have told me that you are on your way. When I first got here, I saw a doggie that looks a lot like Stumpy (has the same coloring) and I thought you'd made it. I asked someone "is that Stumpy?" and he said, "no, it just looks like him". It's funny I'd never met him before, or you for that matter, but we both knew who we were talking about. See you soon!

  11. HAHaaa geezer discount... I remember the first time I didn't have to say ... I was a senior... man?

BUT I've gotten quite used to it by now and brang on the geezer discounts!

Looking forward to reading about your experiences there. Looks like a fine gathering ;)

  12. Nothing screams 'geezer discount' more than pulling up in an RV.

(just kidding....but soon you will be able to post geezer discount tips on your blog).

Sounds like you are having a great trip, I assume you are fairly close to the Grand Canyon, you may want to check that off your bucket list while you have the chance.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.

    1. LOL! I didn't think about that but I'm sure the RV didn't shave any years off my appearance.

The GC is far north of here and Flagstaff has had brutal cold (lows in the -5s). I did a quick trip to the GC a few years ago and haven't stopped thinking about returning in order to explore more in depth (no pun intended).

  13. I think I missed you by about 2 hours. The morning seminar lasted a long time and my chair was up front with someone sitting in it so I couldn't leave. Plus I got caught up in the topic. :)

I'm now in La Posa South near the dump and water so if you come here for service you'd be close enough to stop by. But, unless you plan to hang around a while it would probably be cheaper to go into town instead since you have to pay $40 to use the facilities here but that gets you unlimited use for 2 weeks.

  14. I've gotten a senior discount I don't qualify for several times without asking, but I don't argue with it either. AARP seems to have given up on me joining for now.
